I can’t remember anybody that has ever said, “Mike, you’re one of the most patient people I know.” As far as I know, that’s never happened. So when I say that I’m getting tired of waiting for Android 5.1 to come to my Nexus 4, it’s probably not that much of a revelation.
My first Android phone was actually an HTC Thunderbolt. It was a poor choice for someone like me in that it was a one of the first 4G phones, and it was quickly abandoned due to some hardware limitations. It might get an update a year after most other phones. Maybe.
When I finally decided to upgrade my phone to something new, I went straight for the Nexus line thinking I’d learned my lesson. Nexus phones always get updates fast. You never have to wait!
Yet, here I sit waiting for Android 5.1 for my Nexus 4. Given, a couple weeks compared to more than a year is not something that I should be whining about, but I’ve been looking at the phones that are already getting the update and I see many that are not even Nexus in the list. There should never be a time when someone else’s phone updates faster than Google’s own. That just doesn’t make sense.
I understand that the Nexus 4 isn’t the new shiny anymore. It’s a couple years old now and there’s even been rumor that the Nexus 4 won’t even be getting this update. I find that hard to believe, but I can’t write it off as there will come a day when that’s the case. Still, what is the delay here Google?
